Adding custom domain to Mailgun

Netigate has begun moving away from our Postfix email solution in favour of using Mailgun for our email send outs, which provides a more reliable solution that has a higher standard and security of email deliverability, allows you to own your DNS record changes in domain host providers, rather than external tools, and allow Netigate to log and support email issues in a better way.

To have your custom domain available in your account in Netigate, please follow the below process:

  1. Initiating the Request:
    • Netigate has reached out to customers currently using custom domains and process is ongoing.
    • If you wish to send from a domain that you own, reach out to your Account Manager or CSM representative who can guide you through the process.
  2. DNS Record Generation:
    • Netigate will generate a record for you to add keys to your DNS records for SPF, DKIM, and CNAME records. These records are mandatory.
    • MX records and DMARC records will also be included as a guide, but these records are optional. Do not add multiple MX records if you already have them.
  3. Confirmation and verification:
    • Confirm the changes have been made with your Netigate contact.
    • Netigate have a validation system which checks records every 30 minutes for updates.
    • Times to confirm changes could take anywhere between 10 minutes to 48 hours. This is dependent on your TTL (time-to-live) settings in your DNS records.
  4. Post-Verification Setup:
    • After verification, it is important to allow time for the records to resolve publicly over all DNS checking websites, which is up to 48 hours, before sending surveys from the connected domain to ensure stability.
  5. Final Notification:
    • Once all setup steps are confirmed and validated, your domain will be visible and showing as available for use in the Account Settings -> Custom domains tab.
